About Dr. Carol L. Tessler

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with more than four decades of experience helping people navigate emotional and interpersonal challenges. I have been counseling since 1976 and have been licensed as a clinical psychologist since 1991.

I have experience working in hospital and clinic settings, partial hospitalization programs, and more.  I did psychological evaluations, which included formal testing, for children and adults for many years.  Although I do not work with couples or families via telehealth, I value the importance of family, whether you are navigating a divorce with children or caring for loved ones who need additional care.  Past medical settings experience has made me aware of the impact of physical or mental limitations and health problems.

I deeply respect the values, beliefs, and life experiences each client brings to therapy. I view therapy as a collaborative process where your goals guide the work, and your voice truly matters.

My approach is warm, practical, and insight-oriented, with the goal of helping you create meaningful and lasting change.

Who does Carol L. Tessler work with?

As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Illinois. I work with individuals and couples of all ages who are experiencing emotional, psychological, or relationship challenges. This includes concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, stress, and life transitions.

Therapy can help with a wide range of concerns, including panic and anxiety, depression, anger management, relationship problems, loss and trauma, work-related stress, and personal growth. If something is troubling you, it is worth talking about.

My approach is integrative and collaborative. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic and experiential therapies, hypnotherapy, and creativity coaching. Therapy is tailored to each individual’s needs, goals, and values.

The first session is an opportunity to talk about what brings you to therapy and what you hope to achieve. I will ask questions to understand your concerns and background, and we will discuss how therapy can best support you. This session also allows you to decide whether working together feels like a good fit.

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals and concerns. Some clients benefit from short-term, focused therapy, while others choose longer-term work to address deeper or more complex issues. Progress is guided by your needs and preferences.
